The School Attendance and Education Welfare Service works in partnership with schools, social services, health, police, housing and other agencies to safeguard children and to ensure that they engage fully in an education provision.

The service acts on behalf of the LA to enforce regular school attendance, regulate child employment and issue child entertainment licences. The Education Welfare Officers have a duty to remind parents of their legal responsibilities for ensuring their children attend school regularly and punctually. The Officers are able to offer support to children and families where there are difficulties in school attendance and to help resolve issues when they are disrupting a child's education.

Available to: All Children and families of 5-16 year olds living or studying in the borough who are experiencing difficulties to help ensure children are fully engaged in education, accessing universal services and having every opportunity to be successful
